Weight Loss Food – Fact or Fantasy

There are no single foods that could be construed as the perfect weight loss food regardless of what some of the hype you may read or hear on television. However, it is easy to say that there are food items which may be more beneficial than others in the quest to lose weight. It is all a matter of your body burning more calories than you consume.

Negative Calorie Foods

The concept of consuming deficit calories is an intriguing option when talking about weight loss food. There are no true negative calorie foods as everything has at least a few calories so the name “negative calorie” stems from something else. Basically, a weight loss food which has so few calories that it takes the body more energy to digest it than what is consumed is considered negative calorie.

Some weight loss food that falls within this so-called negative calorie include many vegetables and fruits primarily. A good sampling of the fruits includes grapefruit, cantaloupe, raspberries, guava, lemons, plums, peaches and even blackberries. A few negative calorie vegetables that are perfect as a weight loss food include broccoli, asparagus, celery, cabbage, lettuce, peppers, radishes, tomatoes, spinach and more.

Fiber and Water

Fiber and water are two components that are important in different types of weight loss food because they have the power to fill the tummy without packing on the calories that translate to pounds. Fiber is especially beneficial as a weight loss food because it not only curbs hunger by giving a sense of tummy fulfillment but also the fact that it has many healthy qualities. Fiber, found in whole grains, dried fruit and many vegetables, lowers cholesterol and keeps your bowel activities regular.

Foods with high water content are great as a weight loss food because they will keep you hydrated as well as fill the tummy, prompting you to eat less food. Many high water content foods are low in calories and will give your metabolism a boost because your body has to work harder to digest them.

Other Important Foods

Vegetables and fruits are always going to be the perfect weight loss food because of their high nutritional value and virtually non-existent fat content. Some vegetables and fruits, particularly the strong colored ones, pack a quite a punch in terms of vitamin and mineral content. The dark green leafy vegetables in particular are tops on the weight loss food list.

What you do not want to do is indulge in too many foods that have been manufactured or processed as preservatives and additives have made their way into them and pack on the pounds. As long as you stick with low-fat dairy and weight loss food that can be found naturally, you will be in great shape diet-wise.
