As we entered the 21st century, we realized that our food habits have changed from what they were 20 or even 10 years ago. Food nutrition levels have changed and people are more and more depending on packaged and instant foods nowadays. Fast food is another alternative, which many people just love to indulge in more than they should. Few of us can deny occasionally coveting a McDonalds, KFC or Burger King!

Nutrition from food does not just refer to the things that we eat daily; it extends to everything like vitamin supplements, occasional hearty meals and dessert cravings. Junk food especially has raised lots of questions as many people wonder whether they contain any nutrients at all or are they just selling on the premise of convenience?

Parents who fear their kids are eating too much junk food have reason to be worried because in addition to trans fat and other artery blocking agents, chips, burgers and fries contain coloring, sugar, Monosodium Glutamate, and several other preservatives and additives.

The Basic Food Nutrition Guideline

Let’s focus on what we should consume more in our daily food nutrition intake rather than what we should not. The primary focus will always be something that comes from nature, and that would be nothing other than fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants are one of the most important things needed for healthy growth and only fruits and vegetables can provide these in high levels.

Fruits containing carotene, a form of antioxidant have nutrients such as such as beta-carotene, lycopene, and lutein. Some example of the fruits and vegetables in this group would be papaya, lettuce, tomatoes, beets, sweet potato, carrot, broccoli spinach and red bell pepper. Other than that, fruits and vegetables containing Vitamin C help to neutralize free radicals and protect against muscle, cell and tissue damage. Some examples of fruits containing Vitamin C are papaya, prunes, raisins, apples, pink grapefruit, oranges, berries, bananas, and grapes. Some examples of vegetables in the list are broccoli, spinach, red ball pepper, cantaloupe, tomatoes, potatoes, and many other high ranking vegetables.

This is some of the most important food nutrition that our body requires to survive on. If you are looking forward to a healthy life, you should always practice eating at least a few servings of the fruits and vegetables mentioned above, because without this food nutrition, your meals will be incomplete.
